Environmental Management Systems (EMS)
Having a robust Environmental Management System (EMS) in place is more important than ever. Many lenders, stakeholders, and insurers expect these systems to be in place.
Environmental Management Systems are often developed to obtain an external certification such as ISO 1400. They can also be a requirement of an environmental approval or permit, or a condition of lending.
Environmental Compliance Audits
An Environmental Legislative Compliance Audit is a key component of ensuring environmental compliance for businesses and operators today.
An environmental audit is a systematic, objective review of an organization’s operations, practices, and documentation to ensure compliance with applicable regulations. Environmental audits provide a proactive approach to environmental management and help organizations minimize risk. They also help ensure operational efficiencies and identify gaps before they lead to larger non-conformities or incidents and facilitate the implementation of best management practices to support due diligence and reduce exposure to regulatory liability.
Environmental Compliance Approvals
An Environmental Compliance Approval (ECA) is a permit issued by the Ontario Ministry of the Environment (MECP) that permits a business that may release contaminants to the environment to operate their facility. Types of ECAs include air, noise, waste and sewage. Less complex activities with minor risk may require a simpler registration process through the Environmental Activity and Sector Registry (EASR).
